The materials used for manufacturing crusher machine parts and crusher liners play a critical role in the performance and ultimate success of crushing equipment. Manganese steel has been used for decades in crusher wear parts due to its work-hardening properties. When rocks come into contact with the surface of manganese steel, the outer layer hardens. This makes manganese steel more resistant to wear during operation and enables it to withstand higher impact forces compared to other alloys. However, it is commonly misunderstood that the higher the manganese content in the alloy, the more durable the wear parts will be. In fact, in addition to manganese, manganese alloys typically contain carbon and chromium. Any increase in one component requires adjustments to the overall alloy formula. Without considering the application and the broader formula, an increase in manganese content may reduce the strength or reliability of the crusher machine parts.
We offer a variety of cone crusher liner combinations and crushing chamber configurations to meet the crushing requirements of different operating conditions.
When developing a liner replacement plan, we strongly recommend replacing both the moving crusher concave and mantle simultaneously.
Based on different feed particle sizes and discharge opening settings, we can provide various customized liner combination solutions.

MP Mining Machinery's liner materials show improved crystallization conditions, reduced non-metallic features, fewer gas inclusions, and harmful impurities, resulting in fewer cracks and reduced wear. At the same time, we have not made any significant changes to the chemical composition and microstructure of the liners. The durability of MP Mining Machinery's crusher liners is 20% higher than standard liners. Therefore, the improved MP Mining Machinery liners feature:
● Higher strength and hardness compared to standard liners made of austenitic high-manganese steel.
● Better wear resistance.
● Ideal performance characteristics (wear resistance, ability to withstand high mechanical loads, strength, anti-deformation, etc.).
● Extended service life. Compared to cheaper products produced in other countries, MP Mining Machinery liners have improved the lifespan of crusher concaves from 660 cubic meters per hour to 1333 cubic meters per hour, and cone liners from 850 cubic meters per hour to 1333 cubic meters per hour. Without this innovative technology, the planned replacement cycle for the liners was every 3-4 weeks. After using MP Mining Machinery liners, the maintenance interval is extended to 6-8 weeks
Element content must not exceed the standard. A manganese content lower than the standard will lead to accelerated liner wear. A higher manganese content will increase the brittleness of the liner and increase the likelihood of early failure when processing large particles or contacting difficult-to-crush media.
Tests have shown that the hourly running cost of MP Mining Machinery liners is 60% lower than the comparable products previously used by the company. Notably, the average precision crushers & spares consumes 10 sets of austenitic high-manganese steel liners annually. This means that liner replacement requires 10 shutdowns. However, MP Mining Machinery's liners are consumed at a rate of 7.7 sets per crusher per year, meaning that liner replacement only requires 7 shutdowns.

Does a higher manganese content always make the alloy more durable?
So, is higher manganese content always better? Actually, there is a deeper reason behind it. Indeed, within a certain range, the higher the manganese content in an alloy, the higher the hardness. This simple relationship may explain the popularity of high-manganese alloys over the past few decades.
However, increasing the hardness of the wear liners also increases their brittleness. Alloys with higher brittleness are more likely to crack under high-impact forces. Alloys with slightly lower manganese content (around 13-14%) tend to be more ductile and durable, meaning they can withstand larger impacts without cracking. Depending on the application, higher hardness is not always the best option. High-manganese alloys are particularly suited for crushing abrasive rocks, but for crushing harder rocks, alloys with lower manganese content may be more suitable because they have higher impact resistance.
In addition, other elements are present in the alloy-carbon increases the alloy's hardness and wear resistance, while chromium helps prevent "metal growth" (i.e., the expansion of the liner, which can make it too large for the crusher to handle). Finding the correct balance between these elements and manganese requires a delicate balance. Excessive carbon or chromium can affect the alloy's atomic structure, preventing it from solidifying into an austenitic microstructure, which would significantly reduce the alloy's strength and prevent it from achieving the desired work-hardening properties.
